Death of Rev Father James William Reilly, Priest of the Diocese of Lismore

Dioc Arms New  FINAL (Colour)2 smlFather Jim Reilly died in Coffs harbour last Friday. He had been in declining health and in residence at Mater Christi Sawtell since resigning the Parish of Bellingen in early 2015.

Fr Jim was born in Bathurst on 15 April 1942, and was ordained priest in Rome for the Diocese of Lismore on 4 May 1969 at the conclusion of his studies at Propaganda Fide College, by Cardinal Agaginian.

After various diocesan appointments as an assistant priest, Fr Jim was appointed Administrator and then Parish Priest of North Lismore (1978), Parish Priest of Kyogle (1982), Administrator of St Carthage’s Cathedral (1990), and Parish Priest of Bellingen (2002).

Fr Jim was a member of the Council of Priests and the College of Consultors from 1989, as well as Regional Vicar for Richmond until ill health led to retirement from these offices. He was Vicar-General 1998-2002.

His funeral will be held at Mary Immaculate Mother of God Church at Bellingen at 1.30pm on Thursday, 10th September.
