Catholic Life, the magazine of the Lismore Diocese, has taken out the prestigious award: Best Example of Education Coverage. The award was given at the recent Australasian Catholic Press Association Awards for Excellence 2011, held recently in Adelaide. The education feature highlighted 150 years of Catholic Education in the Diocese of Lismore.
In the presentation of the award the judge commented: ‘This article was visually appealing and drew my attention immediately. It had a very balanced mix of text and visuals. The articles encaptured the spirit in the Diocese of Lismore in a way that reflected the thoughts of the community from the Director of the Diocese through to the voices of the students -all within a few pages. The celebration of the Sesquicentenary not only looked upon the past but also projected a vibrant future. A terrific article.
Editor of Catholic Life Father Peter Karam said: “ It is a great award for our magazine, the fourth in as many years. I congratulate Ms Johanna Evans, our graphic artist and text illustrator, and Ms Maree Murphy from the Diocesan Education Office who coordinates all material from our schools, for their enthusiasm and hard work. I am pleased with the award as it indicates the standard
Catholic Life enjoys with its peers throughout Australasia.”
The annual event sees media representatives from all over Australia and New Zealand who gather to learn from experts in the field, to share knowledge and to grow in fellowship. This year there was also a representative from East Timor.
The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Catholics – The Good News People – Strengthening the Brand’. The keynote speaker at the awards dinner was General Peter Cosgrove AC, MC, CNZM, Chancellor or Australian Catholic University.
